Tissa Hata , M.D.

 


Dr. Hata is Associate Clinical Professor in the Division of Dermatology,  Clinical Service Chief for Dermatology at the Perlman Ambulatory Care Center, and Director of the UCSD Dermatology Clinical Trials Unit.  She joined UCSD in 2001. She received her medical degree at the University of Southern California School of Medicine and went on to complete her dermatology residency at Harvard Medical School. During her last year in residency she was selected as the Chief Resident in Dermatology at Harvard. During this time she also conducted several cutting edge clinical trials at the Laser Center at the Massachusetts General Hospital, and has continued her interest in clinical trials and lasers throughout her career. While at the University of Utah, she helped develop the Raman Laser for noninvasive readings of carotenoid levels in the skin, and oversaw work in clinical trials in this arena.

 

Since her move to UCSD, she has continued with her National Institutes of Health study section meetings to assess clinical trial work of other investigators, as well as her own clinical research projects.   Her clinical research currently has several ongoing clinical trials, including new biologic treatments for psoriasis, ongoing trials in the detection of melanoma, clinical trials in atopic dermatitis and acne rosacea , and a National Institutes of Health funded study with Dr.Richard Gallo examining the risks for eczema vaccinatum in atopic dermatitis patients.One of  their newest projects involves the use of oral Vitamin D to decrease the risk of infections in atopic dermatitis patients.  Dr. Hata's clinical practice is at the Perlman Ambulatory Care Center.
