Research Residency Pathway

Research Residency Pathway

The UC San Diego Dermatology Program includes several faculty who have made major scientific contributions through basic and clinical research. Our program is among the largest and most successful in the nation in basic and translational clinical skin research, with areas of strength in immunology, wound repair, developmental biology and pediatric dermatology. Inherent in our philosophy is the goal to train and advance the academic careers of our students, and we take pride in their future success.

Over 30 PhD graduate students and post-doctoral fellows are currently involved in full-time research at UC San Diego Dermatology research labs, and all dermatology residents are strongly encouraged to participate in research activities. Furthermore, for individuals with appropriate prior research experience, we have also designed an option to participate in a research residency track within the three-year clinical residency training program. These individuals will be selected during the first year of residency training and provided structured elective time throughout their residency training with which to advance their careers.
