Training in basic and translational research is a high priority for the Department of Dermatology at the University of California San Diego. We are proud to have several faculty members with highly successful research programs that reflect broad interest in skin immunology, genetics, development, cancer and disease specific programs. We have organized our outstanding faculty with a proven track record in mentorship to take advantage of our unparalleled institutional scientific resources, a well-funded base of dermatology research and outstandingly equipped centralized modern laboratory space. Our training program leverages these strengths to prepare much-needed future independent research investigators in skin biology.
Students with M.D.s or M.D./Ph.D.s interested in combined clinical and research training in dermatology are offered opportunities in a structured research residency track within our dermatology residency program. Admission to this track requires prior admission to our ACGME-approved dermatology residency program.
Students with Ph.D.s, M.D./Ph.D.s or M.D.s interested in post-doctoral research fellowships should contact individual faculty members for further information on availability.
Students interested in graduate training involving research in cutaneous biology may apply to work under the mentorship of our faculty following admission to one of several local graduate programs at UC San Diego and affiliated institutions. These include:
Our ultimate goal for research training in the Department of Dermatology at UC San Diego is to inspire and provide outstanding preparation for the next generation of academic researchers in investigative dermatology.
